Available on both Android and iOS, TripIt is easily the best travel app today. Simply put, it takes your entire trip itinerary and consolidates it for easy access when you need it. Out of the box, it’s relatively easy to setup and use. There have been countless times I have had to quickly reach into my bag for itinerary papers or sift through endless emails to find my airline documents, hotel booking, rental car and even a tour I have booked through Viator. This travel app makes my life less hectic and more organized.

How it works

  • Book your flights, hotels, car rentals, tours, restaurant reservations and more.
  • Forward all the confirmation emails from the above to TripIt
Note – If you use Outlook.com, Yahoo or Gmail, TripIt can forward those emails for you.
  • TripIt then automatically (or as they put it ‘Automagically’) creates a master itinerary from those confirmation emails in one place for easy access.
  • Your itinerary will remain in the TripIt app even when your phone / device is offline or in airplane mode.
  • You have the ability to sync your itinerary with your calendar
  • If you choose, you can share your itinerary

Supported Booking Site

They support more booking sites (Thousands) than I can post here. Please visit their supported booking sites page to view the list of growing sites.

Is it Free?

For all the features listed above, it is free. There is a feature rich paid version TripIt Pro ($49 a year at the time of this post), but if you only take one or two trips a year, I would only opt for the free version.

TripIt Pro Features

  • The paid version includes everything in the free version including the following.
  • It will send real-time alerts to your device for flight delays, cancellations, and gate changes.
Advice (Always check your gate and keep an eye on the departure board. Never depend solely on an app for gate changes and delays.
  • It can locate alternate flights with open seats quickly. While others are at the gate counter complaining to the staff for a delay or cancellation, you could be finalizing the booking on your next flight.
  • If a better seat is available, TripIt will notify you. A nifty feature; especially if you were stuck in the middle seat.
  • If you’re eligible for a fare refund, TripIt should notify you
  • TripIt will track all of your reward points. Even the expiration. One of my favorite features!
  • TripIt Pro will utilize their partners to offer savings on select VIP benefits.
  • Not sure you want to fork over $49 a year for the paid pro version? TripIt offers a 30 free trial of TripIt Pro.
  • TripIt does not solve all of my travel needs, but it is hands down the most useful travel app I have on my phone. If you are a frequent traveler, this is a super handy app to have on your device. You can check out more from TripIt here.
